There should be a badge for the brave souls who attended the first music event of the year, the Welcome Soiree on 25 Feb: “I survived the heat at the Soiree!”

It was an extremely hot evening but this didn’t prevent our student musicians from entertaining us with some soulful jazz and lively music.

Big Band 1 consists of senior students ably led by Ms Palmyrie.  They played 'That's Life' by G. Goodwin and 'Chega De Saudade' by A. Jobim, and were warmly received by the crowd.

Year 12 Cert IV Jazz Combo played 'Adam's Apple' by W. Shorter, 'Straight No Chaser' by T. Monk and 'Nature Boy' by E. Ahbez.  This ensemble was made up of seven students who entertained the parents and teachers with their high quality playing and singing.

This informal evening was helpful for parents and teachers to put faces to names and enjoy a sociable drink and supper. Thanks to all the students, parents and music teachers who participated, and special thanks to the hardy helpers who were melting behind the bar.
